There is much to argue about. KPIs are everywhere these days: at work, in games. True, I would like to see more KPI metrics for gaming clubs. In New Zealand, the club https://jackpottown.nz doesn't use KPIs at all. Discussed this with the players, they are happy. They think that all these metrics only interfere with the peace of play. They don't want to complicate things. It's better to leave these metrics for work only.

Re: Cryptocurrency, NFTs and pay-to-earn: the new world or a gigantic Ponzi scam?

The only businesses that make sense are the ones that appeal to peasants like you and me. Nobody can make sense of $5000 designer shoes.
The current crop of NFTs are ultimately for the rich and famous. The more absurd and the more expensive, the bigger the flex. As with Bitcoin, as with Jackson Pollock, nothing appears truly valuable until it's been thoroughly ridiculed.

NFT's for games might make some sense though. Fundamentally you're trading the same stuff you always have: Weapons, armor, hats, pets, etc. It's just traded across open markets rather than an (exclusively) in-house one.
Whether NFTs will appeal to ol' Bobby or Ricci, I'm not sure. But in essence, what's being pitched is just Diablo3 with a Real Money Auction House -- minus having to deal with the credit card frauds and such, because of course crypto transactions are irreversible...

Anyway.. Not many developers jumped on the Steam Community Market to prove whether user-to-user transactions were a thing or not. The SCM is still almost exclusively CS:GO transactions. But perhaps NFT offers that last missing piece? Or have developers simply undervalued user-to-user transactions?

One possibly interesting thing NFTs might offer is the ability to track how exclusive the issuance actually is. Knowing if there's 5 or 5 million of a thing could be important in the process of evaluation, not just for speculative reasons but for self-expression.

But if the question is, in the same way that the traditional premium model was replaced by micro-txs, should you now replace the micro-txs with with user-to-user transacted NFTs? The jury is still deliberating, I think.

Thomas G. Additionally, IMO superfan actually sounds more blue-collar / non-spender. E.g. no one thinks of football 'superfans' as being terribly big spenders (individually, of course).

I'm not arguing that 'whale' isn't a negative word to use for your most valuable players, but simply giving them a positive name isn't going to solve the problem of them (often) being treated as sources of income to mine, any more than it would if casinos stopped calling them whales.

Re: Video game tax breaks: Short term gain for long term pain?

Out of all thing... why you used a game known as restaurant cities!!!!! As has pretty much any other niche genre. Just look at the sheer amounts of amazing new adventure games on Steam these days. This list goes on.

Like it or not, niches like PnCs are being kept alive by digital distribution platforms like Steam and GoG these days.
